Mayor Dennis J. Fife

Mayor Dennis J. Fife was elected Mayor of Brigham City on November 3, 2009 and took office January 4, 2010. Dr. Fife has been a lifetime resident of Brigham City maintaining his residency while serving in the military.

After graduation from Box Elder High School in 1963, he attended Brigham Young University for one semester prior to serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney, Australia from 1964 to 1966. The Sydney, Australia mission at that time covered most of the east coast of Australia from Canberra to New Guinea. After his release, he attended Weber State College. He graduated in 1969 as the outstanding graduate in Chemistry. He worked at Thiokol Chemical Corporation after graduation until joining the Air Force to support the Vietnam War. He attended officer's training where he was selected to go on to pilot training. Dennis received his pilot wings in 1971 and was assigned as a weather reconnaissance pilot for the Hurricane Hunters.

He served in the Air Force for 21 years spending nine years as a tenured professor at the United States Air Force Academy and has over 4,000 hours as a pilot. While serving in the military, he received a Masters and Doctorate in Chemistry from Utah State University and a Masters of Business Administration from the International University of Puerto Rico

In 1990, Dennis returned to Brigham City to work at Thiokol. He also continued to teach chemistry at the Utah State University Brigham City Extension Center. Dr. Fife managed the Thiokol analytical chemistry and physical properties laboratories until his retirement from ATK in 2006. He received numerous awards for his service in the Air Force, Thiokol, ATK and support of the NASA Space Shuttle. During his last four years at Thiokol, he completed a Juris Doctorate degree through an extended learning program from Concord Law School.

Dennis has served as a member of the board of directors of the Air Force Academy Federal Credit Union. He has been a member and chair of the Brigham City Public Utility Advisory Board. He served on the accreditation committee for colleges and universities for the American Chemical Society. He currently serves on the scholarship selection committee of the Energy Solutions Foundation that provides prestigious scholarships to tenth grade students planning to study in the fields of science, math or engineering.

Dennis is married to Metta Marie Gunther, daughter of Lloyd Gunther of Brigham City. Dennis and Metta Marie have six children (Kimball, Kellie, Keith, Kurt, Katie, and Kenton) and eighteen grandchildren.
