What is Meals on Wheels?

Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious noontime meals to eligible resident with the help of many volunteers. The bright smile and friendly greeting from the delivery volunteer is often as nourishing as the meal.

Who can receive Meals on Wheels?

If you have a loved one or neighbor who is homebound, physically challenged, or recuperating, Meals on Wheels can help.
· A person must be at least 60 years of age.
· A person must be homebound or unable to leave home without assistance.

What kind of meals are served?

Meals are prepared and packed at Brigham City Senior Center by our trained staff. Each meal provides one-third of the minimum daily nutritional requirements for adults and contains:
· A Meat Entrée
· Vegetable
· Salad
· Bread
· Dessert (regular or diabetic)
· Milk or Juice
A soft diet is available for those who have difficulty chewing or swallowing. Meals are low in salt and lightly seasoned. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Frozen meals are available for weekends or holidays. A liquid diet supplement is also available at a reduced price.

Will you leave my meal if I am not Home?

State health laws prohibit us from leaving a meal if you are not home. Part of the service offered by Meals on Wheels is the daily visit to see that you are in good health and safe from harm. Please let us know before 10:30 a.m. if you will not be at home to receive your meal.

How is Meals on Wheels Funded?

Meals on Wheels receives funding through Box Elder Golden Spike Senior Services, from local cities and counties, along with federal and state monies. Grants are administered through the Bear River Agency of Government and an allotment from United Way. Contributions from generous individuals, businesses, community organizations and corporations support the Meals on Wheels Program.

How do I get Meals on Wheels Service?

Anyone can make a referral by calling the Brigham City Senior Center at (435) 723-3303 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. To assess the need for service, our In-Home Service Worker will visit each recipient.

Delivery volunteers are always needed!

Volunteers are always needed to deliver meals to the homebound elderly. If you have about an hour during the noon time hour that you would be willing to devote to Meals on Wheels, please call the Center at 723-3303. Substitute drivers are also needed.
