Why Recycle?
-
You can save money by using one refuse container instead of two black containers
-
You can help the enviroment by reducing the amount of raw materials that need to be used to manufacture products
-
You can limit the amount of waste buried in landfills
-
If we each recycled our Sunday papers, we could preserve more than 500,000 trees a week
-
Recycling a stack of newspapers ten feet tall saves one tree
-
In the United States, about 70% of our metal is used once, then thrown away
-
Most of this metal can be recycled
-
Recycling one soda can saves enough energy to run your tv for three hours

Unsecured load charges will be applied per Brigham City Ordinance 13.01.005, paragraph 6, which reads: It shall be unlawful, and punishable as a Class "B" misdemeanor for a person to transport refuse over the public streets of Brigham City withouth sufficient restraint or cover to prevent the refuse from escaping from vehicles or containers onto the public streets.
The green waste site accepts only green waste. Any loads contaminated with regular household garbage, rocks, concrete, tires, etc., will be rejected.
Changes were made in the winter of 2004 to allow access to the drop-off area at all times. This was done for the convenience of our citizens who needed to be able to dump their green waste at hours other than those scheduled to have an attendant on site. However, this policy of open access is in danger of being discontinued.
More and more, people are dumping material that is not acceptable. The recycling site is not to be used for general dumping. We have found tires, batteries, household garbage, and even a large amount of spoiled meat at the green waste dump area.
We want to continue to offer open access to the dumping area, but if indiscriminate dumping continues, the gate will be replaced and only open during regular hours Wednesday through Saturday. Dump only green waste, and dump only in the assigned area. Nothing should be left outside the gate or the fenced area.
The paper, plastic, and cardboard bins located at the old fire station property at 100 West and Forest Street are experiencing the same indiscriminate dumping. Continued contamination by improper dumping can result in increasing charges or discontinuation of the service. Please help us to continue to serve the majority who are truly interested in recycling. |
