Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, valid Utah state drivers license, be in good physical condition and have a P.O.S.T. law enforcement certification or be certifiable by hiring date. Proof of certification must be attached to the application.
The hiring process consists of the application process, a written examination, oral interview, physical fitness examination (per Brigham City Police Department Policy
1), background investigation, psychological testing, drug screen and final recommendation to hire and approval by the City Council.
After being hired, a new officer will be required to successfully complete a 13-week field training program.

1PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
There are five (5) physical tests that will be given in one day as follows:
1.5 Mile Run - This measures aerobic power of cardiovascular endurance (the ability to sustain exertion over time). The test consists of running/walking as fast as safely possible the distance of 1.5 miles. Standard: 15:54
Bench Press - This measures the absolute strength of the upper body. The test consists of lying on a bench and pressing, as a minumum, 75 percent body weight, one time. Standard: 75 percent body weight
Push-Ups - This measures the muscular endurance of the upper body. The test consists of doing as many push-ups as possible, from the front, lean and rest position with no time limit. Standard: 25 push-ups
Sit-Ups - This measures the abdominal or trunk muscular endurance. The test consists of lying on the ground and doing as many bent leg sit-ups as possible in one minute. Standard: 35 sit-ups
Vertical Jump - This measure leg power. The test consists of jumping beside a wall and marking how high the member can jump from a standing position. Standard: 16 inches
Each test is scored separately and sworn officers must meet the standard on each test.
