Town Hall Meeting - Underage Drinking
As Mayor of Brigham City, I ask you to join me Wednesday, March 29th at the 7:00 pm at the Brigham City Community Center in a community wide effort to reduce underage drinking. In the 2005 Communities that Care youth survey, 10% percent of 6th graders at ACYI reported using alcohol at least once in their lifetime. This percentage more than doubles by the 8th grade. This means 100 kids in the 8th grade are five times more likely to develop alcohol related problems.

Alcohol use among youth is strongly correlated with violence, risky sexual behavior, poor academic performance and other harmful behaviors that impact families.
- Children who start drinking before age 15 are 12 times more likely to be a victim while under the influence of alcohol and 10 times more likely to be in a fight after drinking, compared with those who wait until they are 21.
- More than 67% of young people who start drinking before the age of 15 will try an illicit drug.
- Traffic crashes are the number one killer of teens and over one-third of teen traffic deaths are alcohol-related
To learn more about how you can help us change this trend, the Brigham City TAG Team will share tools that can empower parents and the community on what they need to know, say, and do to address this problem. Join me on March 29, 2006, 7:00 pm, at the Brigham City Community Center, 24 N 300 W. Let’s start talking before they start drinking.
